Working with elements and fields

You can add, remove, move, and copy elements and fields.

Adding elements and fields

You can add elements and fields in different locations.

  • You can add elements and fields within groups.
  • You can add groups, layouts, link lists, and so on within a layout.

Depending on the element or the layout, different functions are available. However, the technical approach is always the same.

Adding groups

  1. Activate the App Designer.
  2. Activating the App Designer

  3. Open a data record.
  4. Click Customize in the toolbar of the App Designer.
  5. Click Extend z-layout.
  6. Select Group.
  7. A new group is inserted. Next, you can customize or move the group or add elements.

Customizing elements and fields

When you click an element or field, you open the corresponding settings. The setting options differ depending on the element or field.

Moving elements or fields

You move elements or fields to the position of your choice using drag and drop.

Procedure

  1. Click an element or field and keep your left mouse button pressed.
  2. Drag the element or field to the desired location.
  3. A blue line indicates where you can position elements.

  4. Once you are happy with the position of the element, release your mouse button to insert the element or field.

Copying elements or fields

You can easily copy elements or fields within a mask by pressing the Ctrl key while moving the element or field to the desired location. In the process, all settings of the original element or field are adopted.

If the element has a data source, the data source is duplicated and extended by a numerical suffix so that the duplicated data source is unique.

Procedure

  1. Click an element or field and keep your mouse button pressed. Now also press the Ctrl key and keep it pressed at the same time.
  2. Drag the element or field to the desired location.
  3. A blue line indicates where you can position elements.

  4. Once you are happy with the position of the element, release the Ctrl key and the mouse button to insert the copy of the element or field.

Deleting elements or fields

You can delete an element or field in the corresponding settings.

Procedure

  1. Click an element or field.
  2. Click the Remove button.
  3. The element or field is immediately deleted.
  4. If you have deleted an element or field by mistake, you can restore it again using the Undo button.
